On Monday, we kicked off our spring fundraising campaign with a simple promise: We’re watching out for Phoenix — and for you. 

Today, we want to show you what that looks like in practice.

At New Times, providing local coverage for Phoenix is a public service we take seriously. We hope you can see the care behind our work — even when much of what makes it possible happens behind the scenes.

For example, in the past year, we:

• Attended countless city council meetings and legislative hearings
• Made hundreds of public records requests
• Talked to scores of government officials, activists, experts and community members
• Traveled all over the Valley to find and report the news

In other words, we’re the kids who do all of the homework — and sign up for extra credit, too. Through this work, we serve as a second set of eyes and ears for people who care about Phoenix. We go above and beyond to make sure important decisions, policies and promises don’t go unwatched — especially in a critical election year.
