Mercy Otis Warren (1728–1814) was one of America’s earliest female political writers and a fierce voice of the Revolution. She published satirical plays and pamphlets attacking British authorities, rallying colonists to resist tyranny. Her three-volume History of the Rise, Progress, and Termination of the American Revolution offered the first comprehensive narrative of the war from an American perspective.

A friend and correspondent of John Adams and Thomas Jefferson, she championed republican values and individual liberty. She warned, “The rights of the individual should be the primary object of all governments.” Warren’s bold advocacy made her an indispensable patriot who shaped revolutionary ideology from her writing desk.
