The smoke has cleared in California, but sadly, the animal shelters have not. Months after devastating wildfires displaced thousands, shelters in Riverside County remain dangerously overcrowded. With space running out, the risk of euthanasia was becoming a heartbreaking reality. North Shore Animal League America couldn’t let that happen.

Because June is National Adopt a Cat Month, I’m devoting this entire blog to cats — not kittens, but adult cats — and why they make the best, most appreciative, charming, funny, and loving pets in the world. So, get ready to meet some fantastic felines who are waiting for homes, now and forever!
This month marks the return of the brutal Yulin Dog Meat Festival in Yulin, Guangxi, China. Countless dogs and cats will be slaughtered and eaten. Despite this cruelty, there is hope: China has recognized dogs as companion animals, and countries like South Korea have enacted bans on dog meat. Now we must insist they enforce it! We won’t stop until every dog and cat is kept off the table – are you with us?
When our Mutt-i-grees® Curriculum team visited The Viscardi Center in Albertson, NY, we found more than just a school — we found partners who share our mission of fostering hope and resilience.
It is a happy new beginning for Potamus and Eduardo, who traveled all the way from Kabul, Afghanistan. After spending over 200 days with us, these two remarkable cats found the families who would change their lives forever.
