Unconditional Love Has No Age:
The Benefits of Adopting a Senior Pet
When it comes to adopting a pet, people often envision a bouncy puppy or playful kitten, but senior pets have an incredible amount to offer. Like their younger counterparts, seniors can have plenty of playful pep and truly appreciate the joy of a comfy lap to curl up in. Seniors can also offer wonderful companionship with less need for extensive training. For Senior Adoption Month, we take a look at the benefits to adopting an older dog or cat, and how it can be an incredibly rewarding choice for both the animal and the adopter.
Oldies, but
oh…such goodies! Why adopting a senior pet is everything.
When I saw this picture of Mango, I imagined him patiently waiting for that phone to ring with the best news possible: a new family to love him, a new lap to snuggle on, and a fresh start for his golden years. Mango’s story and his tender amber eyes spoke to me. A senior kitty whose life has seen too many dramatic twists and turns, Mango could be the poster boy for senior pet adoption.
Senior pets are truly something special. Dogs and cats in their golden years have so much love to give, yet they are often overlooked at shelters when it comes time to adopt. In honor of Senior Adoption Month, your donation can help more of these deserving animals find their forever families and support their care for as long as they need us.

Celebrating 80 Years Leading the No-Kill Community
2017: Adirondack Region Cat Rescue and Adoption Center Opens in Glens Falls, NY
Continuing our no-kill mission, we opened our newest adoption center in Glens Falls, NY to support the work of the North Country Initiative (NCI). Called the Adirondack Region Cat Rescue and Adoption Center, the 4,300-square-foot facility can accommodate up to 50 felines. Working with the NCI team, we’ve developed a holistic program to address the complex problem of feline overpopulation in ways that are humane, educational, and lasting. To date, NCI has adopted out more than 4,300 cats and kittens, and performed more than 7,400 spay/neuter procedures through owned pets and managed feral colonies in the area.
