It’s That Time of Year…
Global Pet Adoptathon® Month is Back!
Each May, we team up with shelter partners and rescue groups around the world for something truly special — and this year is no different. May 1st begins Global Pet Adoptathon Month! Sponsored by Swiffer and with support from Nutrish, we’re working together to help tens of thousands of animals find the loving homes they deserve. Find your new best friend closer to home at any of our 2,000 shelter partners and rescue groups participating in this year’s Global Pet Adoptathon!

You’ll find a huge selection of dogs, cats, puppies and kittens all in need of a responsible, loving home. Plus something for everyone, including food, fun & games, and more.
There are too many cats!
And too many dogs, too. But for now, I’m thinking about cats, mainly because of a tragedy that occurred in Medford, Long Island, on March 31. That morning, around 7:00, a fire broke out at Happy Cat Sanctuary, where as many as 300 cats lived with owner and founder Chris Arsenault. About 150 cats perished, along with Chris, who died trying to save as many as he could.

At just 10 weeks old, six Terrier puppies were surrendered to Animal Care Centers of NYC, already fighting a deadly battle. All six pups had contracted parvovirus — a highly contagious and often fatal disease. In need of immediate medical intervention, North Shore Animal League America stepped in to help.
Our dedicated volunteers make every paw count—giving their time, energy, and hearts to improve the lives of homeless animals. This Volunteer Appreciation Month, we’re proud to shine a light on a few of these extraordinary individuals who help us create a better world for pets in need each and every day.
