Swift action still needed to protect nesting site!
MAY 15READ IN APP

We wanted to update you on the situation involving the blocked swift nesting site at Pound Road in Banstead.
There is some good news!
Following growing public pressure – including more than 6,500 of you signing our petitionand flooding inboxes with polite but urgent emails – the flue pipe that had been installed directly in front of the active swift nest entrance has now reportedly been repositioned.
According to the brilliant local conservation group Banstead Swifts, the change took just minutes to complete.
After days of concern, distress, and repeated warnings from local volunteers, the pipe was finally moved into a vertical position, potentially restoring access to the nest entrance.
But the situation is still not fully resolved.
The scaffolding remains in place and Banstead Swifts say they have continued watching swifts repeatedly trying to access the nest, colliding with poles, planks and nearby walls in the process.
One bird reportedly disappeared after a collision, raising fears that swifts may already have been injured.
Throughout this ordeal, volunteers from Banstead Swifts have spent countless hours monitoring the site, contacting Raven Housing Trust, and trying to prevent harm coming to these legally protected birds.
And what makes this especially frustrating is just how avoidable this all appears to have been.
The pipe reportedly took around ten minutes to reposition. Ten minutes.
Yet despite this, swifts have spent days struggling to access a nesting site they may have used for years.
We are now urging Raven Housing Trust to take the final step and remove the scaffolding as quickly as possible so this situation can finally be resolved and the swifts properly protected.
More than 6,500 people have already spoken up.
Now let’s get this over the line.
If you have not yet signed the petition, please do so today.
Every nesting site matters.
Every returning pair matters.
And every time people speak up for wildlife, it makes a difference.
Thank you for standing up for swifts.LIKECOMMENTRESTACK
