Seven days, $6 trillion: Nvidia’s tear continues
THE DAILY BULLETIN
FRIDAY · MAY 15, 2026
AI remains in the driver’s seat.
The AI trade roared back to life Thursday, dragging the S&P 500 above 7,500 for the first time ever and reminding everyone why this rally just won’t quit.
Nvidia’s seven-day tear has its market cap flirting with $6 trillion. Cisco popped 13% on a solid outlook. Ford kept climbing on its AI bet.
And Cerebras Systems? The chip startup ripped68% in its trading debut — the kind of first-day move that screams “the animal spirits are alive and well.”Applied Materials added to the after-hours buzz with strong guidance.
But this wasn’t just a tech story. Retail sales advanced for a third straight month, with nine of 13 categories posting gains, even as war-driven energy prices have been hitting wallets at the pump. April retail sales echoed what we’ve heard across corporate conference calls for weeks now: The US consumer remains resilient despite soaring gas prices. When it comes to stocks though, tech is in the driver’s seat right now, not the consumer.

The earnings backdrop keeps doing the heavy lifting. Q1 S&P 500 profits likely grew around 27% year-over-year — the sixth straight quarter of double-digit growth.
For anyone who froze during March’s war-driven slide, Bellwether Wealth’s Clark Bellin has a message: “It’s not too late.”
Translation: the bid is broad, the earnings are real, and the wall of worry is still tall enough to climb.

⚡ CAPITAL MARKETS
The biggest debut of the year is just the appetizer.
This one’s going down as a blockbuster IPO.Cerebras Systems (CBRS) priced its long-awaited IPO at $185 a share, raising $5.5 billion in the process.
Shares skyrocketed to open at $350 on the Nasdaq, nearly doubling out of the gate and pegging the AI chip designer’s market cap at roughly $75 billion.
The deal was more than 25x oversubscribed — the kind of demand profile that explains why SpaceX, OpenAI, and Anthropic are all reportedly eyeing the public markets themselves.
Translation: the IPO window is wide open, the AI trade still has legs, and the next wave of names waiting in the wings just got a green light.
