Mayor Kate Gallego announced the Phoenix Quantum Strategy during her April 21 State of the City address, saying the city has “the very best person in the country” to lead the new initiative: ASU’s Sethuraman “Panch” Panchanathan.

Geosciences professor named Guggenheim Fellow

S.-H. Dan Shim has been named a 2026 Guggenheim Fellow by the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation, recognizing his interdisciplinary work bridging earth science and astrophysics.

4 students awarded Goldwater Scholarships for STEM research

The students join a select group of undergraduates pursuing research careers in science, engineering and mathematics. It’s only the fifth time four students have been chosen in the past 20 years. Robin Gartner (center) and other juniors from Mesa’s Skyline High School wear VR headsets to sample a nutrition course taught by ASU Professor Chris Wharton through a Dreamscape Learn module on Tuesday, April 21, at Santan Hall on the Polytechnic campus. Faculty, students and community members at ASU’s West Valley campus also recently had a chance to try out the virtual learning experience, which will soon become a permanent part of the campus when the Dreamscape Learn classroom launches this fall inside the new academic and administration building.
