Verdejo
Vibrant freshness, mineral depth, and a refined Burgundian touch!
Our thoughts…Bright, lifted, and beautifully expressive, this Verdejo is all about freshness with depth. Aromas of white flowers, ripe peach, and citrus leap from the glass, layered with subtle tropical notes. On the palate, it’s vibrant and textured, showing zesty lemon and mandarin alongside ripe orchard fruit, balanced by crisp acidity. A distinctive streak of minerality carries through to a clean, refreshing finish, where hints of fresh-cut grass, almond, and a touch of anise add complexity. Elegant yet easy to drink—this is Verdejo at its most characterful and food-friendly. Extremely limited supply!
92 Points – James Suckling
“Bitter almond with smoked lemon and rich lees on the nose, following through to a full-bodied palate with zesty lemon flavors. Love the taut texture on the palate, which is tense, dry and bright. An excellent verdejo.”
About the Winery…Founded on a remarkable patchwork of pre-phylloxera Verdejo vineyards—some between 100 and 200 years old—Ossian is rooted in the sandy soils of Nieva in Segovia, where altitude (840–930 meters) and dramatic day-to-night temperature swings help preserve freshness and elevate quality. The project began in a historic cellar tied to the 12th-century Monastery of El Parral, blending deep history with thoughtful innovation. Owners Javier Zaccagnini and Ismael Gozalo partnered with Burgundian winemaker Pierre Millemann, bringing a Burgundian lens to Verdejo through meticulous oak experimentation and élevage. Since its debut 2005 vintage—an instant success—Ossian has remained committed to organic farming (now over seven years certified), working without synthetic chemicals and championing ungrafted vines. The result is a singular expression of Verdejo: old-vine, organically farmed, and crafted with a precision that marries Spanish terroir with Burgundian philosophy.
