Hayner 1866: An American Whiskey Press Release
Hayner Distilling, the award-winning distillery nestled in Troy, Ohio, is set to launch its newest creation: “1866: An American Whiskey” on Saturday, October 12 at noon.
Hayner Distilling’s latest offering, “1866: An American Whiskey,” continues the distillery’s ascent as a pioneer of innovative blends. “We started with four separate whiskies that were individually exceptional,” says Greg Taylor, president of Hayner Distilling. “But when blended in just the right proportions, the resulting whiskey surpasses the individual components, creating a spirit that’s truly greater than the sum of its parts.”
The art of blending whiskey is a meticulous craft—a harmonious balance of science, sensory expertise, and creativity. Hayner’s dedication to this craft has already earned them gold and silver medals at prestigious competitions in New York, San Francisco, and the John Barleycorn Spirit Awards for their previous whiskey blends.
“We spent most of 2024 perfecting this blend, and we’re excited to share it with everyone,” Taylor continues. “The goal was to capture the sweetness of an aged bourbon with the complexities of a great rye. ‘1866’ does exactly that, and we can’t wait for everyone to experience this blend.”
The name “1866: An American Whiskey” is more than a nod to the distillery’s founding year; it’s a tribute to the spirit of Americans who rebuilt the country after the Civil War. The label features the state of Ohio and an authentic map of Ohio train tracks from 1866, grounding the whiskey in a sense of place and history. The back label shares the story of Lewis Hayner, the founder of Hayner Distilling, and the remarkable growth of Hayner whiskey in early America.
Whiskey enthusiasts can acquire this exceptional blend starting October 12 at noon at Hayner Distilling, located at 619 Lincoln Avenue in Troy, Ohio. For those unable to visit the distillery, “1866: An American Whiskey” will be available at select state liquor stores beginning January 1, 2025. More information can be found atwww.hayner.com.
