House: Close the Achievement Gap

Peter,
Today, the Arizona House of Representatives is voting on HB 2423—our bill to create an automatic enrollment process for middle school students to take algebra by the time they reach 8th grade. House: Reduce the Achievement Gap
This vote is the last hurdle before it goes to the governor and is so important. Currently, between 24% and 34% of students from low-socioeconomic or Latino backgrounds in Arizona take Algebra I or higher in the eighth grade, compared to 57% from higher-income backgrounds. Students who successfully complete a higher-level math course are more likely to go to college, especially low-income, Latino, and male students.House of Representatives: Reduce the Achievement Gap
Taking advanced classes is an easy way to improve college attainment by automatically enrolling students in algebra by the time they reach 8th grade as long as they meet objective criteria.
But, your elected officials need to hear RIGHT NOW that you support HB 2423. Please take action now to ask your legislators to support automatic enrollment in algebra and reduce the achievement gap!
Standing with you,
