Holiday message from President Peter CohenView in browserPeter Cohen, President4035 S Riverpoint Parkway,Phoenix, AZ 85040Dear Students and Alumni,It is an incredible honor to lead University of Phoenix and work together with people who are champions of you — our students and alumni. Your experience, your successes and triumphs, no matter how large or incremental, are celebrated by me and the entire University of Phoenix team. As we move into the holiday season, we encounter opportunities to practice kindness, to exercise an attitude of thankfulness, and to embrace family and loved ones. Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday of the year. My family has made this a special time when we all gather in one place and simply enjoy each other’s company. My wife often starts cooking the day before so she can spend more time engaging with the family, and Thanksgiving dinner is usually served midafternoon, followed by an afternoon of chatting, music, sometimes a movie, and often a modest but warming fire. With two grandchildren now in the mix, it also involves keeping them occupied with games, walks to a park, or other activities. Up until we were interrupted by the pandemic, we bought and collected food and sundries for a local soup kitchen and spent time together packing them into bags for those in need. Most importantly to us, Thanksgiving is a time to reflect on the positive aspects of our lives and what we are thankful for.The University recently published our 2020 Annual Academic Report, which is a reflection on a year that changed everything about modern learning, work, and life, and which adds our story to the global narrative. In the spirit of being a Phoenix, ours is a story of adaptation, innovation, and community. At University of Phoenix, we sharpened and expanded our focus on dual fronts — the pandemic and systemic injustice. We adapted and aligned with the evolving needs of our students, so many of whom are working adults with families and children. We also turned inward as an institution and reflected on how we were approaching systemic racism, and today, we continue to take steps forward and establish actions to implement change. Much of this is highlighted in the report. I hope you find some time to review. The challenge of returning to school as a working or parenting adult is daunting. I was reading a Facebook post from one of our online students, this past week, sharing how scared they were to face a “classroom” again after being out of school for 10 years or more. The encouragement they received from current students, saying “you can do it,” “we got your back,” and “the support from the university is so helpful” reminded me that we are a community, of students helping students, alumni helping alumni, and faculty and staff supporting students and each other, collectively, to help you succeed when faced with the worry and stress of adding a 20-hour-a-week commitment to an already busy life. When we consider our voyage together in the last year, I hope each of you are taking heart in your own journeys as students and alumni. I wish for each of you this year to experience success in all you do, to feel gratitude, to show someone else support, and to be with those who matter most to you.Good tidings,

PRESCOTT, AZ – Representative Paul Gosar, D.D.S. (AZ-04) issued the following statement after introducing H.R. 6030, the Freedom to Travel Act of 2021. This legislation will restore due process in air travel security and restore the basic right to travel for all Americans.
“Reports that Americans with no criminal backgrounds have been placed on the secretive No Fly List by the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), preventing them from air travel, are deeply troubling. There are over 81,000 individuals on the No Fly List, including 1000 American citizens, none of whom were notified or ever given a hearing. Absolutely no due process is provided to American citizens who are being stripped of a fundamental right.
I am also concerned that the No Fly List, which ostensibly is used to identify terrorists, is being used to target political dissidents.
Every American citizen is entitled to due process and to be told of any allegations against them and reasons for being placed on the No Fly List. The people listed should have a right to an independent tribunal to review the good faith factual basis for the listing. Currently, there is no meaningful legal redress.
Any listing based on legitimate, demonstrable, provable objective evidence that a person is a “terrorist” should be easy to present by any law enforcement agency. The secrecy and complete lack of neutral fact-finding is un-American and unconstitutional.
I am proud to introduce this legislation that protects the rights to travel for Americans while ensuring the sensitive balance between legitimate law enforcement and citizen constitutional rights against potential political mistreatment,” concluded Congressman Gosar.
“The Freedom to Travel Act would be the most significant step toward bringing the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) within the rule of law since the creation of the TSA 20 years ago. It would rein in the TSA’s ability to substitute secret, extrajudicial edicts for court orders restricting American’s rights, and would remove key barriers that have stood in the way of judicial review of TSA actions and legal redress for those whose rights have been violated,” added Edward Hasbrouck of the Identity Project.
Background:
The No Fly List, first created 20 years ago in response to the 9/11 terrorist attacks, is used by the TSA as part of its mission to secure all modes of transportation. When a traveler purchases a plane ticket, airlines must request permission from the Department of Homeland Security to issue a boarding pass. Unless the government grants permission through the No Fly List, a passenger is unable to fly.
In some cases, Americans are denied the right to travel because they have the same name as a known terrorist. In others, some are placed on the list by mistake or nefarious reasons. When one is denied boarding, current law restricts the jurisdiction of federal courts to examine the case. The government works tirelessly to not disclose the basis for its denial, thus preventing aggrieved citizens the legal recourse to challenge the decision.
The Freedom to Travel Act would codify the right to travel, set specific standards on what violations can be used to deny the right to fly, grant harmed persons damages, and reform the law to end the government’s ability to deny Americans due process.

Washington, D.C.—Congressman Paul Gosar, DDS (AZ-04), issued the following statement in response to the Democrats’ attack on his First Amendment right to speak out against illegal immigration and open borders in the upcoming budget bill, known as the Build Back Better Plan.
“President Trump called me his “warrior” for a reason. I have been fighting for America First and against the Democrats’ efforts to destroy this country with open borders, drugs, illegal immigration and human trafficking all condoned and initiated by the Biden administration. My team created a short anime video that depicts, in literary form, the plague of open borders and the people who promote and support it. It is done in a superhero format with good guys and bad guys. It flies through the air. It moves fast. But it does not incite violence. It does not promote violence.
Even Twitter, the Left’s mouthpiece, did not remove the cartoon noting it was in the public’s interest for it to remain up. The cartoon directly contributes to the understanding and discussion of the battle taking place along the southern border resulting from Mr. Biden’s open border policies.
If this cartoon “incites violence” and needs to be banned and me “punished” for it, then the Cartoon Network, Disney and all of Hollywood must be shut down and “punished” for all the cartoon and film violence they portray. I don’t advocate this, I am merely pointing out the lunacy of those who think this cartoon is violent and incites violence. And I remind everyone that pretending to be upset over a cartoon and wanting to suppress the ideas in a cartoon is what happened to the Charlie Hebdo magazine in France. All right-thinking people condemned that then, and they should condemn the Democrats now for their violation of free speech.
The actual inciters and promoters of violence are Democrats like Maxine Waters who asked an angry mob to run Trump supporters out of town, or Vice President Harris, who helped raise bail money for violent arsonists so they could be sprung from prison only to burn more property. On May 30, 2020, according to Reuters, 13 Biden campaign staff donated money to bail out criminals so they could return to the streets. Some of the criminals bailed out by the Democrats included:
“Among those bailed out by the Minnesota Freedom Fund (MFF) is a suspect who shot at police, a woman accused of killing a friend, and a twice convicted sex offender, according to court records reviewed by the FOX 9 Investigators. According to attempted murder charges, Jaleel Stallings shot at members of a SWAT Team during the riots in May. Police recovered a modified pistol that looks like an AK-47. MFF paid $75,000 in cash to get Stallings out of jail. Darnika Floyd is charged with second degree murder, for stabbing a friend to death. MFF paid $100,000 cash for her release. Christopher Boswell, a twice convicted rapist, is currently charged with kidnapping, assault, and sexual assault in two separate cases. MFF paid $350,00 [sic] in cash for his release.”
In response to burning, looting and rioting, one member of Congress tweeted that the riots and protests were good as they “make others uncomfortable.” That same member told rioters not to stop because “if you are calling for an end to this unrest, and if you are calling for an end to all this [violence], but you are not calling for the end of the conditions that created the unrest, you are a hypocrite.” Thus, we have members of Congress urging more violence and inciting more violence. Actual violence. Over $2 billion in property damage, 100 days of burning and looting and 34 people killed.
Yet they remain on their committees. They were never censured for actual incitement to violence.
One member of Congress stated that a cartoon can’t hold a gun, but “Congressman Gosar can.” This reckless incitement to violence will go unaddressed.
Let us not conflate real violence, supported by Democrats, with a mere cartoon that harms nothing but simply lampoons the globalists who push for open borders, amnesty and the destruction of our country, our republic,” concluded Congressman Gosar.

Imagine the ’21 season as high school …
Who was most popular in the 2021 MLB class? What about Homecoming King? Class Clown? Valedictorian? It’s all here in the 2021 MLB.comYearbook.

Ohtani was even better than we thought
Shohei Ohtani did it all last season with his bat and with his arm. But exactly how great was he? Well, he broke Statcast — nine different ways.

HOF ballot just got whole lot more interesting
The 2022 Hall of Fame ballot is out, and as usual there are many subplots, perhaps none bigger than the first-time eligibility of Alex Rodriguez and David Ortiz.

Teams had to finalize their 40-man rosters in advance of next month’s Rule 5 Draft. There were some surprise prospect additions, and here are the most intriguing.

Buster Posey became only the fifth player to win a Comeback Player of the Year Award in his final season.

Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens, Curt Schilling and Sammy Sosa — four controversy-laden players — are on the Hall of Fame ballot for the 10th and final time.

Find out which players will be named to the All-MLB Team presented by Cue Health on MLB Network starting at 6 p.m. ET.

Today’s Trivia Question
Buster Posey became a two-time winner of the Comeback Player of the Year Award. Who’s the only other player to win it twice — and in different leagues?

Good morning RJ,
Some Pinal County residents were unpleasantly surprised when the county announced plans to develop a shooting range for the sheriff’s office just south of Arizona Farms road. Neighbors to the proposed shooting range say they weren’t notified about the project, which they fear could drop their property values by as much as 50%.
Big news for Country Thunder fans: Country Thunder has announced its lineup for April. It includes familiar faces to the Pinal’s largest music festival of the year, like Blake Shelton, as well as some newcomers. See the full list of main stage performers here.
Are you ready for Thanksgiving? We sure are! We’re already thinking about all the mouthwatering food 😍. Our newsroom recently shared some of their favorite holiday recipes with Melissa St. Aude and she, in turn, is sharing them with you. Our recipes include upside-down apple cider cake; cranberry, ginger and lemon chutney; sweet potato mash with a dash of bourbon; stuffed pumpkin and everything in between. Get the recipes. (And be on the lookout for a very special Thanksgiving episode of Back Story this week).
Speaking of Thanksgiving, we may just have one more thing to add to the list of things to be grateful for this year. A new survey shows that the prices of a turkey dinner went up this year — but not as high as you might have expected.

USCIS Conducts Third Random Selection from Previously Submitted FY 2022 H-1B Cap Registrations

Dear Stakeholder,
U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) recently determined that it needed to select additional registrations to reach the fiscal year (FY) 2022 H-1B numerical allocations, including the advanced degree exemption. On November 19, USCIS selected from among previously submitted electronic registrations using a random selection process. The petition filing period based on registrations selected on November 19 began on November 22, 2021, and will close on February 23, 2022. Selected registrants will have their myUSCIS accounts updated to include a selection notice, which includes details about when and where to file. We encourage petitioners to file as soon as possible.
This is the third time USCIS conducted random selections from among properly submitted electronic registrations for the FY 2022 H-1B numerical allocations. The initial random selection was made in March 2021, followed by a subsequent random selection in July 2021.
Only those petitioners with selected registrations for FY 2022 are eligible to file H-1B cap-subject petitions. An H-1B cap-subject petition must be properly filed at the correct service center and within the filing period indicated on the relevant registration selection notice. Online filing is not available for H-1B petitions. Petitioners filing H-1B petitions must do so by paper and must include a printed copy of the applicable registration selection notice with the FY 2022 H-1B cap-subject petition.
Registration selection only indicates that petitioners are eligible to file H-1B cap-subject petitions; it does not signify that the petition will be approved. Petitioners filing H-1B cap-subject petitions, including petitions eligible for the advanced degree exemption, must still submit evidence and establish eligibility for petition approval based on existing statutory and regulatory requirements.
More Information
For more information, visit USCIS’ H-1B Cap Season web page.
The CIS Ombudsman is committed to meeting with stakeholders and USCIS to address concerns related to filings of H-1B cap-subject petitions. Additional updates on this topic will be shared by the CIS Ombudsman as appropriate. For more information on our office, please visit our website.
Please complete the CIS Ombudsman’s Customer Satisfaction Survey. We appreciate your feedback.
