Good morning, Arizona. Here’s what our reporters are working on and what you should know about what’s happening across the state before you start your day.

The final copy of The Arizona Republic rolled off the press on the evening of Sunday, Oct. 5 — the last edition printed in the Deer Valley plant in north Phoenix and the last edition printed in Arizona for the foreseeable future.

Today in history

Here are just some of the historic events on this date in the past.

•	On this day in 1927: “The Jazz Singer,” starring Al Jolson, opened in New York as the first ever full-length “talkie.” The groundbreaking film with spoken dialogue would revolutionize the entertainment industry.
•	In 1949: “Smile, you’re on Candid Camera!” The hidden-camera reality TV show “Candid Camera” first aired in America. It was a long-lasting sensation, inspiring numerous spin-offs and similar shows around the world.
•	In 1973: An Arab coalition led by Egypt and Syria launched a surprise attack against Israel on both its south and north borders, sparking the Yom Kippur War. The conflict ended in a cease-fire 18 days later, with Israel the victor.
•	In 1979: Pope John Paul II became the first pope in history to visit the White House, where he met with President Jimmy Carter.
•	In 1981: Anwar Sadat, the third president of Egypt, was shot in Cairo while attending an annual military parade. The assassination was believed by many to be linked to Sadat’s participation in the Camp David Accords, a peace initiative with Israel brokered by the United States.
•	In 2007: English adventurer Jason Lewis completed the first human-powered circumnavigation of the Earth after traveling more than 46,000 miles using only bicycles, rollerblades, kayaks and a specially designed pedal boat.
•	In 2010: The Instagram app was launched, racking up 25,000 users in its first day.
