To celebrate Inseparable’s 5th anniversary, we’re sharing five things that give us hope over the next few weeks. Here’s your dose of hope for today:

Mental health is a nonpartisan issue! Peter, in a time of deep polarization, when it may feel so hard to find issues voters can agree on, consistent support for good mental health policy across the political spectrum gives us hope.

Both voters and policymakers have made it clear that access to mental health and substance use care is something they support. This issue is one that unites us all!

As a result, we’ve seen bipartisan wins that we’re proud to be a part of all across the country, in red, blue, and purple states. Just this year, that includes:

📍 In Montana, more than $58 million was allocated in the budget for dedicated mental health programs and services.

📍 In Maryland, despite a $3 billion budget deficit, lawmakers protected school mental health care from $70 million in proposed cuts.

📍 In Virginia, the legislature expanded tele-mental health access for kids in school.

📍 In Wyoming, a new law means that if a child is believed to be at risk of suicide, the school will notify parents and provide them with suicide prevention resources.

📍 In Washington and Colorado, new laws require insurers to use the same definition of “medical necessity” that doctors do, so they can no longer override a doctor’s recommendations about the mental health treatment patients need.

Even though partisanship is at an all-time high, it’s clear that we can make progress across the states on mental health! Everyone deserves access to affordable mental health care, no matter where you live.

Inseparable will keep working in all 50 states to make sure people get the care they need and deserve.
