In the aftermath of a violent incident in Minnesota—where Democratic lawmakers and abortion rights advocates were targeted—Senator Mike Lee (R-Utah) took to social media.
Rather than offer support or condemn the violence, he spread false claims and mocked those affected.
Despite clear evidence that the suspect was a far-right extremist, Lee labeled him a “Marxist.” He even shared a photo of the masked individual at a victim’s front door with the caption: “Nightmare on Waltz Street.”
Public officials have a responsibility to speak with honesty and care—especially when tensions are high. Twisting moments of crisis into political stunts isn’t just inappropriate. It’s dangerous.
