BACKGROUND:
Château Roquefort, located in Lugasson within Bordeaux’s Entre-Deux-Mers region, is a family-owned estate operated by the Bellanger family. The estate emphasizes organic viticulture and sustainable practices.
The name “Les Roches Blanches” refers to the white limestone soils that define the vineyard’s terroir. At Castelviel, the highest point in the Gironde, Sauvignon Blanc vines thrive on clay-limestone soils interspersed with fossilized oyster beds, imparting a distinctive mineral character to the wine.
Winemaker’s Notes
The 2023 is crafted entirely from 100% Sauvignon Blanc grapes. The vines, averaging around 25 years old, are manually harvested to ensure optimal fruit selection. Grapes are gently pressed in an inert environment to preserve aromatic purity. Fermentation takes place at low temperatures in stainless steel vats to enhance the wine’s bright and fresh profile. Following fermentation, the wine undergoes a short maturation on fine lees in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks.
It has an intense, aromatic nose with fresh notes of white flowers. The mouth is quite supple, with exotic notes. The finish is refreshing.
