CROWN & Glory
In 2021, the CROWN movement hit center stage in various media outlets spotlighting Dove and the CROWN Coalition’s work to Create a Respectful and Open World for Natural Hair.
- Country Music Awards — CROWN Act Champion Faith Fennidy introduced Mickey Guyton during her Love My Hair performance, which she was inspired to write after seeing the online video of Faith being kicked out of school because of her hair.
- EBONY POWER 100 — EBONY celebrated the award-winning co-creators of the CROWN Coalition highlighting the inspiration behind the CROWN Act and their collaboration to end hair discrimination nationwide.
- Good Morning America — The CROWN Act was featured in two GMA segments sharing the experiences of 7-year-old Jurnee Hoffmeyer and 14-year-old Faith Fennidydemonstrating the importance of protecting our children against hair discrimination in schools.
- Last Week Tonight — Last Week Tonight with John Oliver discussed the importance of Black hair independence and the work being done to end race-based hair discrimination nationwide through CROWN Act legislation.
- Red Table Talk — Los Angeles County Supervisor Holly J. Mitchell and hair discrimination advocate Chastity Jones joined Red Table Talk spotlighting race-based hair discrimination in the workplace.
2nd Annual National CROWN Day
From the first annual CROWN Awards to the unveiling of the first-ever CROWN Act-inspired mural in the Nation’s Capital – the 2nd annual CROWN Day was a resounding success! We loved seeing all your beautiful CROWN Day photos and appreciate you sharing the CROWN Act petition to bring awareness to the legislation.
More Legislative Wins!
- Anti-hair discrimination legislation was signed in 7 new states and 23 municipalities! Making it a total of 14 states and 34 municipalities that have enacted the CROWN Act or legislation inspired by the CROWN Act.
- On September 30th, the CROWN Act (Federal Bill H.R. 2116) passed out of the House Judiciary Committee.
