Your Night Prayer
| Today’s Night Prayer is brought to you by Catholic CoffeeA Night PrayerJesus Christ, my God, I adore You and thank You for all the graces You have given me this day. I offer You my sleep and all the moments of this night. I place myself and all my loved ones, wherever they may be, in Your sacred side and under the mantle of Our Blessed Mother. Let Your holy angels stand watch and keep us in peace. Amen.Quote of the Day“Thou alone and Thy Mother are in all things fair; there is no flaw in Thee and no stain in Thy Mother.” -St. Ephrem Today’s MeditationAdvent is a penitential season. In fact, it has been referred to as a “Little Lent.” It used to be forty days long—just like Lent—but was reduced to four weeks around the 9th century, which is why we have the Four Sundays of Advent today. You may have noticed that the Mass itself assumes a more somber tone during this season. The priests wear violet vestments, as they do during Lent, since purple is the liturgical color that signifies an attitude of repentance and sorrow for sin. The Gloria is also removed from the beginning of Mass, as it is in Lent, which deepens the season’s somber tone. And why is it removed? Because, according to the great liturgist Reverend Dom Guéranger, “this glorious song was sung at Bethlehem over the crib of the divine Babe,” but during Advent “the tongues of the angels are not loosened yet; the Virgin has not brought forth her divine Treasure; it is not time to sing…‘Glory be to God in the highest, and peace on earth to men of good will.’” —Good Catholic Digital Content Series, Great AdventAn excerpt from Recommended ProductsDivine Mercy & St. Michael Colored Visor Clip Seated Our Lady of Grace Statue – 8″Examination of ConscienceThe daily examination of conscience is an ancient Catholic practice. It’s very simple, and it’s designed to help us identify our sins and weaknesses so that we can improve and grow stronger in the spiritual life. Basically, it consists in taking a few minutes at the end of the day to prayerfully review our actions in the light of God’s commandments. The Act of Contrition is often said afterwards. The daily examination also serves as an excellent ongoing preparation for regular Confession. |
