Sam Goulden, founder of MNML and a true enthusiast of both surfing and golf, has been fortunate enough to split his time between LA and Puerto Rico.
His success in running an online golf instruction business has allowed him to call these places home in recent years.
While he is deeply passionate about catching waves, his love for golf is equally undeniable, and he’s been able to combine his two passions to create everything that MNML encompasses.
After taking a few years away from competitive golf, Sam voyaged to Bali in 2018 to reflect and find his passion again.
What started as a soul-searching surf trip, ended up being the lightning rod that sparked the idea of MNML Golf.
From Bali to Puerto Rico to Redondo Beach: Goulden and MNML Golf
With a passion for an idea that had been brewing in his mind for a couple years, Goulden found himself struck by inspiration while in Bali.
That’s where the name Minimal Golf – MNML for short – came to him, and he wasted no time getting to work on what he believed would become the epitome of modern golf bags.
His top priorities were twofold: first, to ensure the bag boasted a sleek, minimalist appearance and remained lightweight for easy transport; and second, to equip it with all the cutting-edge accessories essential for today’s players.
The journey to what MNML is now has embodied his dedication to crafting something extraordinary for the player and the sport.
MNML Golf’s Trade-It-Forward Program
In late 2021, MNML Golf launched their TRADE-IT-FORWARD program allowing golfers to “trade-in” an old, functional conditioned bag for donation.
MNML covers shipping costs and then donates that bag to the SCGA Jr. Foundation to get in the hands of an underserved junior golfer.
“We at MNML Golf are passionate about minimizing waste and helping others. With the Trade it Forward Program you have the opportunity to do both” says Goulden.
Since 2021, the Trade it Forward initiative has already been able to donate $200,000+ worth of bags to SCGA Junior golfers to help promote the game of golf and show that golf is for everyone.
“Simply purchase your Trade-It-Forward V2 bag and send us your old bag, in working order, and we’ll take care of the rest!”
“I want to bring golf back to its roots” – Sam Goulden
While often covered in the golf trades, Goulden wants to drive the industry toward its roots – when golfers and the environment were more closely aligned in sport, lifestyle, and consciousness.
Wait, say that again? Yes, Goulden is on a mission to create and re-create the original fantasy of golf’s more natural, minimalistic roots and experiences.
