When it comes to technology essential for reducing CO₂emissions, all eyes are on carbon capture and storage, or CCS.

CCS is the process of capturing CO₂ from industrial activities that would otherwise be released into the atmosphere, then injecting that CO₂into deep geologic formations for safe, secure and permanent storage underground.

Here are seven examples of why CCS is one of the keys that could unlock a lower-emission future.

ExxonMobil moves forward with largest renewable diesel facility in Canada

A $560M investment moves construction forward on the largest renewable diesel facility in Canada. With production expected to start up in 2025, the investment in the Strathcona facility from our majority-owned affiliate, Imperial Oil will:

🛢️ Produce up to 20K barrels of renewable diesel a day primarily from locally sourced feedstocks

⚡ Use low-carbon hydrogen with carbon capture and storage technology

👷 ~600 direct construction jobs, along with hundreds more by business partners
