We know that mental health support needs to be made accessible at every level. We’ve seen mental health legislative wins in Illinois, Georgia, and Wisconsin, where essential services like screenings and telehealth access were finally expanded. Our community did this together!
These are huge wins — many people will benefit from this kind of common-sense legislation. But now it’s time for all members of Congress to follow suit and prioritize mental healthcare in their states.
While state mental health legislation is crucial, there are still millions of Americans who are left out and unable to access the care they need. We need federal action to guarantee that everyoneis able to access mental health care whenever they need it, no matter where they are.
For too many of us, waiting for potentially life-saving mental health services is not an option. Yet, our elected leaders in Congress aren’t prioritizing this issue nearly enough.
We need your support to urge Congress to take immediate action and pass meaningful legislation to address our growing mental health crisis, Peter. This is a big task to accomplish on our own so we need you with us.
It’s okay to not be okay. If you or someone you know needs help, call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-TALK (8255). Crisis Text Line also provides free, 24/7, confidential support via text message to people in crisis when they text HOME to 741741.
