The first written mention of Brunello came in the 14th century, though it was not widely documented until the early 1800s; most records from this time cite the superiority of wines from the Montalcino region. It is likely that the earliest Brunellos contained a blend of grapes, but by the mid-19th century, varietal Sangiovese was being planted. Finally, in 1888, a winemaker named Ferruccio Biondi-Santi released the first modern version of Brunello di Montalcino, aged for a decade in oak barrels.
After World War II, the Biondi-Santi family was still the only producer of Brunello, and had only released four vintages until this time, establishing Brunello as one of Italy’s rarest wines. Little by little, other producers began to make Brunello in the postwar period, and in 1968 the Montalcino region was granted DOC status under Italy’s appellation laws. Finally, in 1980, the region was Italy’s first to gain DOCG status, the highest possible for Italian wines.
Today, Brunello di Montalcino has over 200 producers that make more than 300 thousand cases per year. However, due to its quality and relatively low production numbers, it remains one of Italy’s most expensive and sought-after wines.

Was: $115.00

Elegant, bright ruby red with delicately bright rim. On the nose bright malt, red cherry fruit, rich raspberries, a breath of vanilla powder. On the palate tension-loaded, with drive, shows strength, tannin and fruit, the components still have to come together a little, however, shows good foresight.
This Brunello by Corte dei Venti is a robust and exciting Tuscan red wine made from Sangiovese grapes, aged for 36 months months in large Slavonian oak barrels. It expresses a typical and territorial organoleptic profile through a robust and deep mouthfeel, giving off an intense bouquet that smells of ripe red fruit, cocoa powder and vanilla on an ethereal and balsamic background, with flavors of tobacco and medicinal herbs.
Bright ruby with hints of garnet. Typical notes of ripe red fruits combine with hints of sweet spices. A delicate ethereal and balsamic background, with tones of tobacco and official herbs. The great intensity in the mouth, the fullness and roundness are excellently supported by freshness and structure; the tannins robust and soft at the same time give an elegance and persistence to this wine and assure it of a long life.

Brunello di Montalcino Masterclass
Featuring Mastrojanni Winery
On Saturday, February 24th at 6pm we are pleased to invite you to a Brunello Masterclass tasting hosted by MS Laura Paolucci, representative of Mastrojanni, who will lead you through the world of Brunello and the wines from Mastrojanni.
Founded by Gabriele Mastrojanni, the namesake winery is a pioneer of making top-quality Brunello di Montalcino in the subzone of Castelnuovo dell’Abate, where the warm temperature is moderated by the surrounding ridges and flowing Orcia River, producing Brunellos with rich fruits, minerality and profound complexity. The estate is now owned and managed by the coffee dynasty Gruppo Illy, which puts investments in both the vineyards and cellars to further improve the quality without changing day-to-day operations or the house style.
To complement these exquisite wines, Beaune’s Wine Bar will be providing a light selection of cheese and charcuterie, carefully curated to enhance your tasting journey.
Limited seating available- Cost for this tasting event is $70pp
