This Week With Gosar
![]() Weekly NewsletterFebruary 15, 2026 ![]() Happy Valentine’s Day!If you missed it, check out my very special Valentine’s Mineral Mondayby clicking here. Gosar Votes for the SAVE America ActThis week, I voted yes on the SAVE America Act to defend a simple principle: voting is a right of U.S. citizenship and should be protected accordingly. The bill requires proof of citizenship to register and a government-issued photo ID to vote—common-sense safeguards that already apply to everyday activities like flying, buying alcohol, or even joining a gym. Democrats oppose these protections because loose rules and weak verification invite abuse, especially as nearly 20 million illegal aliens entered the country under the previous administration, increasing the risk posed by sloppy voter rolls. As I noted earlier, requiring proof of citizenship to register and a photo ID to vote is common sense. If you need valid identification to buy a six-pack of beer or some Marlboro Lights, board an airplane, shop at Costco, or join a gym, you should absolutely need it to vote. The idea that voting should have fewer safeguards than everyday transactions is absurd. With dozens of states already requiring voter ID and others refusing despite documented problems, the SAVE America Act restores trust in elections by securing the process, cleaning up voter rolls, and ensuring only lawful American citizens decide American elections. By blocking DHS funding at the last possible moment, Democrats in Congress are knowingly putting national security at risk—forcing TSA agents, Coast Guard members, Secret Service personnel, and FEMA responders to work without pay, slowing disaster response, weakening cybersecurity and counterterrorism efforts, and endangering American families. This shutdown is entirely manufactured, completely avoidable, and driven by partisan gamesmanship, not principle. Republicans did their job; Democrats walked away from a deal and are now holding Americans hostage to score political points, proving once again that they are willing to sacrifice public safety to satisfy their radical agenda. As I noted last week: this is a sick stunt. Democrats are perfectly willing to shut down the government to shield violent illegal aliens—people whose crimes have destroyed families, shattered communities, and stolen innocent lives—while showing outright contempt for the victims left behind. They will go to extraordinary lengths to defend criminal illegals who should never have been in this country yet won’t lift a finger for the parents who have buried their sons or daughters. ![]() Trump Rolls Back Silly Auto Stop Requirement on AutomobilesSome sanity was restored this week. In a long-overdue return to common sense, the Trump administration has finally pulled the plug on a pile of Obama-era EPA rules that treated drivers like lab rats—chief among them the universally despised auto start-stop mandate. You know the one: every red light turns your car into a nervous wreck, shutting off and restarting like it’s saving the planet one awkward lurch at a time. It was sold as an environmental virtue, but in reality, it annoyed drivers, wore down components, and delivered marginal benefits at best, all so regulators could check a box in Washington. Ending this nonsense is a welcome dose of sanity—proof that policy doesn’t have to ignore real-world experience to satisfy bureaucratic theory. Instead of forcing drivers to tolerate gimmicks nobody asked for, President Trump’s move restores a basic principle: technology should serve people, not ideology. Sometimes progress looks less like a mandate and more like finally admitting a bad idea was a bad idea. ![]() Job Growth Crushes Expectations New data released this week show that the economy added 172,000 new private-sector jobs and shed 42,000 government jobs – bringing the unemployment rate down to 4.3%. In fact, the number of new jobs added in January was more than double economists’ predictions, coming in higher than nearly all economists surveyed by Bloomberg. Funny how nearly every economist and media “expert” somehow managed to wildly underestimate the January jobs numbers – again. Makes you wonder whether the forecasters were honestly wrong, or conveniently low so they wouldn’t have to admit that President Trump’s policies are working. When the economy beats expectations under Trump, the goalposts move, the credit disappears, and the silence gets loud. Coincidence…or just the usual refusal to give credit where credit is due? America’s economic momentum is undeniable, and it is great news for hardworking families. Strong fourth-quarter GDP growth, rising real wages, this week’s positive jobs report, and easing inflation after Biden’s historic inflation spike all point to an economy moving in the right direction. Thanks to President Trump’s leadership and Republicans in Congress, pro-growth policies are back—cutting taxes, unleashing American energy, and rewarding work. The tax savings from the One Big Beautiful Bill are putting more money in paychecks, lowering costs, and restoring affordability across the board. This is what happens when common-sense, America-first economic policies are allowed to work: more jobs, higher wages, lower inflation, and renewed confidence in the future for all Americans. ![]() Gosar Announces Congressional Art CompetitionI’m excited to kick off the 2026 Congressional Art Competition and invite creative high school students from Arizona’s 9th Congressional District—grades 8 through 12, including homeschool, online, and alternative programs—to show off their artistic talents. My office is now accepting submissions through Wednesday, April 1, 2026. Each spring, the Congressional Institute hosts this nationwide visual art competition to celebrate and inspire young artists across the country. Since it began in 1982, more than 650,000 students have participated. The winning artwork from our district will be proudly displayed for an entire year in the United States Capitol—a truly unique honor. This competition is a fantastic opportunity to highlight the creativity, passion, and talent of Arizona’s next generation of artists, and I encourage every student with a love for art to participate. See the above flyer for more information and details about this year’s art competition! 🎨 Tweet of the Week: ![]() Photo of the Week: ![]() Richard Hay from Lake Havasu City, AZ sent in this incredible photo he recently snapped while hiking at Horseshoe Bend in Page, Arizona.
