This Week With Gosar
![]() Weekly NewsletterJanuary 4, 2026 President Trump Signs Congressman Gosar’s Legislation into LawThis week, President Trump signed into law H.R. 1043, the La Paz County Solar Energy and Jobs Creation Act, legislation I introduced to unlock local land for responsible energy development and job creation in La Paz County. The signing of the La Paz County Solar Energy and Jobs Creation Act marks a significant milestone for La Paz County and reflects years of sustained effort to responsibly harness the region’s vast energy potential. Championed by me, this legislation represents the culmination of more than a decade of my efforts to advance commonsense land-use reforms that put local communities—not Washington bureaucrats—first. It builds on my prior legislative successesaimed at unlocking economic opportunity in western Arizona while strengthening America’s energy independence.Arizonans enjoy 306 “sunny days” annually and the Solar Energy Industries Association currently lists Arizona as fourth nationally for total installed solar capacity. La Paz County is uniquely positioned to be a leader in Arizona’s solar energy development. With abundant sunshine, existing transmission infrastructure, and strong local support for responsible development, the county has long been constrained not by lack of interest or opportunity, but by federal land restrictions that slowed progress and discouraged investment. H.R. 1043 addresses this challenge head-on by authorizing the conveyance of federal land to La Paz County, clearing the way for large-scale solar generation and energy storage projects. This reform empowers local leaders to attract private investment, create high-quality jobs, and expand the county’s tax base—all while supporting reliable, American-made energy production. ☀The importance of this legislation cannot be overstated for La Paz County’s long-term economic future. Solar projects made possible under H.R. 1043 will generate construction and permanent jobs, spur related infrastructure development, and provide new revenue streams for local services such as schools, public safety, and roads. At the same time, the bill reinforces a conservative, all-of-the-above energy strategy that values innovation, domestic production, and local control rather than top-down federal mandates.By signing H.R. 1043 into law, President Trump delivered a tangible win for La Paz County families and workers, reaffirming a commitment to policies that balance economic growth with responsible land stewardship. The law stands as a clear example of how persistent leadership, collaboration, and a focus on constituent needs can produce real results—positioning La Paz County as a hub for solar energy development and ensuring its communities share directly in the benefits of America’s growing energy economy.![]() Narco-Tyrant Maduro ArrestedPresident Trump’s decisive action and successful operation to apprehend narco-tyrant Nicolás Maduro marks a major step forward for U.S. security and leadership in the Western Hemisphere. It makes unmistakably clear that the era of sanctuary for terrorists, drug traffickers, and criminal regimes is over—and that the United States will confront the sources of drugs and illegal migration, not just their symptoms. God bless the men and women of the U.S. military who made this possible. This development carries profound significance. The removal of a violent narcoterrorist tyrant creates a long-overdue opportunity for freedom for the Venezuelan people—an intelligent, industrious, and resilient nation that has suffered under illegitimate rule. Maduro has American blood on his hands and holding him accountable is unquestionably in the national interest of the United States. Just as critical is the road ahead. The United States has a strategic and moral interest in supporting the Venezuelan people as they rebuild their country and pursue a future defined by peace, stability, and prosperity alongside the free world. President Trump has been unequivocal in his commitment to protect our nation: securing the border, deporting illegals, dismantling terrorist networks, taking on violent cartels, and safeguarding Americans from threats at home and abroad. While past leaders have failed to act decisively, President Trump has made clear that he will not tolerate terrorists or criminals operating freely against the United States and he and his national security team deserve recognition for initiating what could become the liberation of Venezuela. America’s security requires dismantling the drug-driven criminal network operating in our own hemisphere, with Venezuela as its hub. With Maduro’s capture, that network is beginning to unravel. What’s Next for Maduro? As President Trump noted, Nicolas Maduro and his wife have been indicted in the Southern District of New York for their role in flooding our nation with lethal poison responsible for the deaths of hundreds of thousands of Americans. They will soon face the full wrath of American justice on American soil in American courts, where the overwhelming evidence of their crimes will be presented in a court of law. On a side note note: Maduro’s policies were fully endorsed in the U.S. in 2021 by the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), and a couple of my leftist colleagues in Congress have expressed support for the DSA. And lest anyone forget, New York City just elected a DSA member as its new mayor. ![]() ICE Arrests Target Criminal AliensThis week it was reported that the large majority of illegal alien arrests by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement are criminals who have been convicted or those with pending charges for criminal offenses. According to ICE, roughly 70 percent of illegal migrants arrested this year have either criminal convictions or pending criminal charges. These are not abstractions or statistics pulled out of thin air—they represent lowlifes who have broken our laws and, in many cases, committed serious crimes after entering or remaining in the United States unlawfully. This data directly contradicts persistent claims from the mainstream media and open-borders activists who have repeatedly asserted that immigration enforcement efforts primarily target otherwise “law-abiding” individuals. The facts tell a very different story, and this data confirms what I said all along: immigration enforcement under the Trump administration is focused first and foremost on protecting public safety and targeting those who pose real threats to our communities.Open-border leftists and the Fake News have attempted to mislead the public by portraying ICE as indiscriminately rounding up noncriminal aliens. That narrative has now been thoroughly debunked by the government’s own data. The reality is clear: ICE is prioritizing criminal aliens—individuals who have already demonstrated a willingness to disregard our laws and, in many cases, endanger innocent Americans. A nation without borders is not a nation at all. Our immigration laws exist for a reason: to ensure that those who come to the United States do so legally, safely, and in a manner consistent with our national interests. When those laws are not enforced, it is working-class Americans—particularly in border states like Arizona and interior communities—who pay the price through increased crime, overwhelmed public services, and reduced economic opportunity. I strongly commend the work of our brave men and women at U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and applaud the Trump administration for restoring integrity, accountability, and the rule of law to our immigration system.
