Twenty-five years ago, a heart-wrenching incident in a small Ohio town ignited a powerful movement.
A class at Milo Runkle’s local high school took a horrifying turn when the teacher—also a pig farmer—brought dead piglets for dissection. Tragically, one piglet was still alive. A student who worked on the teacher’s farm slammed the piglet headfirst onto the floor, a failed attempt to kill her.
The incident sent shockwaves through the community. Yet a judge ruled that the student’s action was legal because it was “standard agricultural practice.”
Outraged and driven by a deep sense of justice, Milo vowed to fight this systemic cruelty. Determined to make a difference, Milo and a fellow activist started an animal rights group in their small town. They chose a name that captured their unwavering commitment: Mercy For Animals.
What began as a local effort has grown into a global movement, thanks to passionate advocates like you.
To honor the movement Milo started and our 25 years of fighting for farmed animals, we invite you to join us on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, for the Mercy For Animals 25th Anniversary Celebration—an online day dedicated to driving impact for farmed animals.
