Happy new year! I’m Monique, Good Housekeeping’s Home Design Director.
Every year, it’s a thrill to explore the wide range of thoughtful trend predictions from professional interior designers and design experts. There never fails to be an interesting mix of trends with staying power — statement wallpaper and textured tiles, for example — as well as a few surprising discoveries (who else was delighted by Pantone’s 2024 Color of the Year, Peach Fuzz?).
And for 2024, there seems to be endless inspiration to guide you through a major home project, small upgrade or a fun decor refresh. Check out a few of my favorite interior design trends for this year that are worth keeping on your radar:
Wallpaper in Unexpected Places: This is the year to ditch bare walls once and for all! Try outfitting a room with wallpaper in a personality-packed print, whether you’re partial to florals, stripes or geometrics. Plus, you can easily find removable wallpaper designs if you’re not ready to fully commit.
Mixed Metals: Do you like mixing silver and gold jewelry? Then, there’s no reason why you can’t layer hardware finishes in your home as well. It’s an easy way to add more visual appeal to your interior, especially in a kitchen.
Textured Tiles: Give a bathroom or kitchen more character with 3D tiles. “This transformative addition not only enhances the visual appeal of a space but also introduces layers, dimension and a tactile experience for the user,” designer Amber Peterson told GH.
Shades of Green: Go for a calming sage or rich forest green paint color to bring a space to life. It’s a beautiful color that can work for walls, kitchen cabinets, you name it. (Check out our report on green kitchens being all the rage).
Herringbone Flooring: More and more homeowners (and interior designers) are embracing traditional herringbone flooring (you might have spotted them in Europe or even TikTok). They make a statement in rooms and add a bit more warmth to a design.
