Back in August 2021, MLB Pipeline predicted who would be each farm system’s No. 1 prospect entering 2023.

There were some hits: Gunnar Henderson, Francisco Álvarez, Jordan Walker, Anthony Volpe and Marcelo Mayer were selected then, and now they head into this season in the Top 10 of the overall rankings.

Some picks were more complicated. It isn’t easy, this prospect prediction business.

But our prognosticators are giving it another go. Find out which prospects are expected to be ranked first in each of the 30 farm systems two years from now.

“He does have the belief that he will continue to be one of the best players in the game, and so do we,” GM Ross Atkins said.

The National Baseball Hall of Fame includes 37 members who were inducted largely or entirely based on their careers in the Negro Leagues. But there are also other stars who got their start in the Negro Leagues before going on to achieve greatness in the integrated Majors.

As another Super Bowl approaches, this seems like the perfect time to reminisce about what could have been for some former Major League stars.

With Bob Gibson and Reggie Jackson each earning the honor twice, there have been eight Black players who have combined to win 10 World Series MVP Awards.
