The Florence Town Council is still looking for a new town manager. Brent Billingsley, the town’s last manager, left in early February. The council plans to interview a new round of candidates for the position next week.
Also in Coolidge, educators are celebrating some successes and looking for ways to improve local schools after the state released new letter grades for individual schools last week. This the first time in two years that the state has released letter grades for schools. The state held off on scoring schools in 2020 and 2021 because of the pandemic.

But on Oct. 14, after three generations in the business, co-owners and siblings Tom Shope and Beth Pineda retired and sold their store to a new family seeking to continue the legacy of Shope’s IGA.
