The August event was another big hit. Over 100 cars showed up and at least twice that number of spectators. Moms, dads, kids, babies and dogs. Lots of dogs. A good time was had by all. (At least that’s what the dogs said.)
This month, we’re featuring the cars of the “Cannonball”.
Why? Well, the Lock, Stock, and Barrel Restaurant in Goodwives Shopping Center was the starting point for the last official Cannonball Baker Sea-to-Shining-Sea Memorial Trophy Dash in 1979 – the brainchild of one Brock Yates. It was also the starting point (in 1984) for the first Cannonball One Lap of America. Sadly, LSB is gone, but Goodwives remains.
If you own a car that resembles a car that competed in any of the Cannonballs, bring it.
The best examples of Cannonball cars will get trophies, and will be asked to come back in October when dedicate a plaque that commemorates the location and its place in automotive history. So far, the following Cannonball racers are scheduled to appear:
Everyone who shows up – Exhibitors and Spectators – will get one of these cool commemorative ID badges and a lanyard:
The bar code on each pass will get everyone, Exhibitors and Spectators, a 20% discount on food purchases at Aux Delices on the day of the show. If you’re an Exhibitor, your pass will also get you FREE coffee, so make sure you stop by the registration table to get yours.
