Dear Peter,

I’m honored, humbled, and excited to serve as the new President of the SABR Board of Directors. I joined SABR in 1983 as a college student, and it has since become one of my most cherished associations. It has provided me with a unique community to explore my love of baseball history and, just as importantly, to make lifelong friends. My recent years on the Board have given me a new appreciation for the tremendous effort from so many of you that makes SABR such a vibrant organization.

We begin the year in a strong financial position and remain committed to expanding our research offerings and baseball-related opportunities for all members. With that foundation, the top item on our agenda for 2026 is to refresh our strategic plan.

As we conclude our current plan, we will build on its many successes and refocus our efforts on new opportunities and goals. To guide this process, we will review four key segments of SABR: our community; finance and governance; external connections; and organizational capabilities. Our goal is to create a forward-looking plan that will guide SABR for years to come.

As we look ahead, I want to highlight one of our most popular annual events. January ends with SABR Day on Saturday, January 31, 2026. This is a fantastic opportunity for members to engage with each other, regardless of where they live, and celebrate our shared passion. Whether you are a dedicated researcher or a passionate fan, there will be plenty of interesting offerings on SABR Day and throughout the 2026 calendar.

I hope everyone is enjoying this year’s hot stove season and that your favorite team has made some promising moves for the year ahead.
