Drawing Room Chamber Concert – Ben Flanders & Sonya Szabo-Reynolds

The Troy-Hayner Cultural Center is delighted to welcome baritone Ben Flanders and pianist Sonya Szabo-Reynolds to the 2025–2026 Drawing Room Chamber Concert Series. Together, they will perform Sometimes It Happens So, a poignant song cycle by American composer Kile Smith, set to the poetry of Jane Flanders.
Ben Flanders is the founder and Artistic Director of Slavic Voices, an ensemble dedicated to the art song traditions of Eastern and Central Europe. He is also an active recitalist and opera performer, known for championing new American art song.
Sonya Szabo-Reynolds is an acclaimed collaborative pianist and educator who has partnered with leading orchestral musicians and served as President of the Ohio Music Teachers Association. She was named OhioMTA’s Certified Teacher of the Year in 2016 and continues to inspire students as an examiner for the Royal Conservatory of Music.
This intimate evening of art song offers a rare opportunity to experience a contemporary song cycle in the historic Hayner Drawing Room. Admission is free, but seating is limited—arrive early for the best view of this exceptional performance.

Step back into Hollywood’s Golden Age with this 1941 noir classic starring Humphrey Bogart. As always, our film nights are free and open to the public — popcorn included!
Hayner Gift Gallery 2025

The Troy-Hayner Cultural Center invites you to shop small and support local at the annual Hayner Gift Gallery on Saturday, November 15 from 10:00 am – 4:00 pm. This special holiday market features talented regional artists and makers offering one-of-a-kind creations perfect for gift-giving or treating yourself.

Seasonal décor and unique handmade treasures

Holiday Open House 2025

Celebrate the season at the Troy-Hayner Cultural Center’s Holiday Open House, a beloved community tradition held the first weekend of December. Step into the beautifully decorated Hayner mansion and enjoy a weekend of holiday cheer for the whole family.

Holiday Concert: Gem City Ringers
Saturday, December 13, 2025 | 7:30 pm | East Room
Ring in the season with the Gem City Ringers, one of Dayton’s premier handbell ensembles. Enjoy an evening of festive favorites and timeless carols performed in the warmth and beauty of the Hayner’s East Room, surrounded by the holiday décor themed Christmas Movies.
This concert is free and open to the public. Doors open at 6:30 pm.

The Static Between Us
Dates: October 10 – November 23
Join us for The Static Between Us, a fine art exhibit featuring the award-winning colored pencil drawings of John Middick. This highly anticipated show explores Middick’s masterful use of color and line to capture emotion and narrative in everyday life.
Step inside the Hayner and experience the magic of the season as our annual holiday décor is unveiled. This year’s theme Christmas Movies transforms every room of the mansion into a festive wonderland. Local designers, artists, and florists have each adopted a space and re-imagined it with creative flair and holiday cheer.
Lovely Tree Squares with Emily Kasper
Age: 10 & up
Mondays, November 17 & 24, 6:00 – 8:00 PM
Fee: $45 per person (2-day class)
Practice colour-work by knitting squares featuring a tree motif. Beginner knitting experience required; all supplies are included.
Holiday Earrings with Connie Galey
Age: 16 & up
Monday, November 10, 6:00 – 8:00 PM
Fee: $30 per person (1-day class)
Create three pairs of festive earrings — no prior experience needed. All materials included, and you’ll learn basic jewelry-making skills.
Beginning Oil Painting with Shirley DeLaet (Session 3)
Age: Adult
Wednesdays, November 12, 19, December 3, 10 & 17, 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM
Fee: $100 per person (5-week class)
Learn the fundamentals of oil painting including color, composition, and values. Shirley’s step-by-step instruction will help you develop a solid foundation in oils with techniques you can use for a lifetime. Some supplies included; see supply list for details.
