Spring is in full bloom and it’s hard not to appreciate all that Mother Nature has to offer after a long winter. This is also why every April since 1970 we celebrate Earth Day on April 22nd. Observed in over 190 countries, Each Day is our opportunity to raise awareness about environmental issues and encourage everyone to take action to protect the planet.
You may be wondering what the correlation is between Earth Day and sleep, and while they may seem unrelated to us they are intrinsically connected. The way we treat the environment can affect our health and the quality of sleep. For example, air pollution can disrupt our sleep and cause respiratory problems and you know that we focus on clean indoor air quality in your sleep environment. Earth Day is able to shine a spotlight on these issues and bring more awareness to reducing the use and production of consumer products that are both damaging to the environment and contribute to unhealthy indoor environments. Not to mention that you should be spending time outside and being exposed to natural light and fresh air which can promote better sleep.
It’s also important to take a look at the companies you do business with, prioritizing companies that have a focus on sustainability and green manufacturing processes. This year on Earth Day I want to challenge everyone to take action to protect the environment. If you can’t physically plant a tree, find a local charity that promotes green spaces that can improve air quality. Or even reduce your energy consumption and vow to eliminate using certain devices in your bedroom. This can help you eliminate synthetic light and reduce the EMFs that are emitted from your environment, thus contributing to a more sustainable and healthier environment while also creating a healthier sleep environment.
