Meet HB 2423

Peter,
Did you know that only 24%–34% of students from low-socioeconomic backgrounds or Latino backgrounds take Algebra I or higher in the eighth grade, compared to 57% of higher-income backgrounds?
Add your name: I support middle school algebra!
And that taking advanced math courses significantly improves long-term outcomes for low-income students in Arizona? For the class of 2019, students who successfully completed a higher-level math course were 2.2 times more likely to attend college than their peers. This increased likelihood of college attendance was notably greatest for low-income, Latino, and male students.
That’s why we’re supporting HB 2423 – a bill to make it easier for qualified students to enroll in advanced math courses. In states around the country, this simple step has reduced the achievement gap and allowed access to these important classes at a critical time in a student’s life.
Do you have a story about advanced classes? Share your story today!
If not, add your name to support automatic enrollment and better pathways to algebra in 8th grade!
Because ALL Arizona students deserve a pathway to success.
Standing with you,
Jacob Sumner, Marketing and Communications Manager
