The Museum reduces lighting and sounds and maintains a low attendance, with quiet spaces set up for breaks, for children and other individuals with special sensory needs. A few of the historic trains will be open, with Museum staff present to answer questions.
Children ages 2 through preK will enjoy the featured book “Nell Plants A Tree,” by Anne Wynter and Daniel Miyares, which coincides with the Spring Equinox and the International Day of Forests, both of which are celebrated in March. In addition to the reading, children will plant a seed in a miniature pot, and learn how to water and care for it properly to see it grow.
4:00 p.m. You’re right on track for reading and railroading as readers share stories about trains, railroads and other amazing people, places and things during the family-friendly event. Kids receive their very own “suitcase” and use it to travel from story to story throughout the day. They can collect a sticker after each story and create their own suitcase design with stickers, crayons, glitter and other trimmings. On hand throughout the day will be various read aloud teams from KPETS, Keystone Pet Enhanced Therapy Services. Visitors also can meet Catcher, the Museum’s friendly mascot.
