Lymphocytes: The Cancer Fighters We May Be Overlooking

from Emma Suttie
Epoch Health Reporter

The way we think about cancer is changing.
Doctors are realizing that conventional treatments that kill cancer at the body’s expense are not the only way to approach these rapidly dividing cells. As a result, a new paradigm is emerging that harnesses the body’s innate abilities to keep cancer cells in check.
The focus is on the immune system, and specifically, the body’s most powerful cancer-killing cells, called lymphocytes.
This approach taps into a more holistic view of the body and its ability to heal itself when given what it needs. I watched it work for almost two decades with patients, using modalities that support the body’s healing capabilities while trusting in its formidable intelligence. I truly believe that our most powerful healing comes not from external treatments but from the body itself.
In this view, disease isn’t something external to be fought and overcome; it is simply an imbalance in the system, with symptoms offering feedback to alert you to its presence—and guide your actions to restore equilibrium.
Our lymphocytes seek out and kill cancer cells, and although this happens all the time without us even knowing it, one way cancer can occur is when it evades detection by our lymphocytes or when they are not working as well as they should.
The good news is that simple, daily habits can strengthen our lymphocytes and make them more effective at maintaining the balance that keeps us cancer-free. In this week’s feature, we explore these amazing cells, why they are so critical to cancer, why cancer sometimes gets the upper hand, and most importantly, what we can do to boost both their numbers and their power.
I am continually in awe of our bodies and their infinite intelligence. I hope this week’s article sparks that sense of awe in you, too.
Wishing you health and happiness,
