Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about the spaces we move between—the switches we turn off and on throughout the day. One moment I’m elbow-deep in a new test batch of oil, the next I’m pulling weeds in the garden while Bear stands beside me, proudly announcing she’s “pulling the bad guys.”
Most days, I feel more Mom than Mowellens CEO. And honestly, I’m grateful we’re seven years in. Some parts of the company now feel like second nature—ritual, beauty, and soul still powering every batch. But that mental toggle? It’s real. Mom guilt creeps in sometimes. I feel stretched, torn.
I turned 40 in mid-June. We moved from Southern California to Nashville. I moved the company, too. It was… a lot. Cortisol was probably at an all-time high, and I’m still working to bring it down. Founder and CEO isn’t as shiny as it once looked on paper—and I’m still deeply grateful for all of it.
Summer stretches me wide like that: soft and slow in some ways, overflowing and full in others.
The humidity in Tennessee is real. I can do half a day outside, but by afternoon it’s a push. The air sits heavy on my skin. I’ve craved the warmth, though—Southern California was running cold. I wore sweatshirts most of the year, swimsuits for maybe a month. Between wildfires and toxins in the air, I didn’t want to risk it for Bear. So we moved.
Right now, we’re running a fresh batch of One For All (even more gardenia-forward). I’ve been using it on my scalp before I wash—just once a week now, and my hair has started to self-regulate. The pre-wash oiling helps detox product buildup from years of dry shampoo and hairspray.
I’ve also been making a rosemary tonic—just simmered water and organic rosemary from the garden, finished with a splash of ACV. That’s my “shampoo” in between. It feels good to trust the old ways again.
I’m craving simplicity.
Less routine. More ritual.
A long body oil massage after Bear goes down.
A cold green juice in the early morning light.
Time in the dirt.
Time away from the screen.
It’s not always perfect. But when I slow down—even for a breath—I remember why I started this.
Tell me—what’s been grounding you lately? I’d truly love to know. Just hit reply.
