On the 50th anniversary of the landmark civil rights law, Title IX, the Department of Education announced proposed regulations to help fulfill the promise of Title IX. These changes would help ensure that all students have the opportunity to learn and thrive, regardless of sex, sexual orientation, or gender identity.
However, these proposed changes can’t become a reality without support from this community–they need to hear from you.
The proposed rule makes important changes to the previous administration’s rules by:
Strengthening protections against sexual harassment and making it easier to hold schools accountable;
Requiring schools to develop procedures for addressing all claims of sex discrimination;
Strengthening protections for pregnant students and educators; and
Clarifying that Title IX’s prohibition of sex discrimination includes discrimination based on sex stereotypes, sex characteristics, sexual orientation, and gender identity, and that schools have a responsibility to prevent and address all forms of sex-based harassment.
