Rescue dogs deserve birthday celebrations and that was the thinking when North Shore Animal League America declared the first day of August as DOGust 1st^®, the official birthday of all rescue dogs or as we like to call them, Mutt-i-grees. To get the pawty started, we’ve teamed up with shelter and rescue groups across the country to help these amazing dogs find loving, responsible homes of their own. Find a shelter near you and get ready to bring home a lifetime of unconditional love.

Losing a pet…or a lost pet?
The difference is profound.

As awful as it is to have to euthanize a beloved friend, there is comfort in knowing you freed her from suffering. But there’s another way to lose a pet that I think is even worse, and because July is National Lost Pet Prevention Month, I want to talk about this important topic, no matter how terrifying it is.

Journey Home Took Five Years and Nearly Ten Thousand Miles

Five years ago, as part of our rescue efforts to save street dogs in Thailand, Max made the long journey from Phuket to our Port Washington, NY campus. After spending most of his life at our shelter, Max formed a bond that finally brought him to a loving home of his own.

Buddy Is on the Mend, and on the Move

When we first met Buddy, as part of our lifesaving Help Me Heal Program, he was suffering from fractures to both hips after being hit by a car. Today, Buddy is doing well after surgery as he prepares to move forward on his journey of healing.

We’re getting ready for the Walk & Wag 30-Mile Facebook Challenge and we want you to be a part of it.
