Rj — As threats against federal judges and their families skyrocket, the rule of law is more tenuous than ever.
Approximately one-third of federal judges have received threats against them or their families since Donald Trump took office. If judges fear for their lives or the safety of their families just for doing their jobs, then we are no longer living in a democracy governed by the rule of law.
And our own president is exacerbating the issue.
Donald Trump has targeted federal judges by name, attacked their integrity, and incited threats against them. He’s directly naming them and publicly mocking them from the most powerful office in the country — all because they are doing their jobs to provide checks on his authoritarian administration.
And he knows exactly how his threats and attacks will be received by his followers — January 6 taught us that.
By inciting these lawless attacks, Donald Trump is blatantly using the presidency to attack the rule of law and evade accountability. He is encouraging politically motivated attacks to intimidate the judiciary and silence anyone who stands in his way.
This isn’t just about Trump trying to escape justice. It’s about whether the rule of law still means anything in the United States.
That’s why I’m leading the bipartisan push to fully fund the Daniel Anderl Judicial Security and Privacy Act, which would remove judges’ personal information from the internet and give them the tools to protect themselves and their families from doxxing and political violence.
