Feeling rusty after some time away from Lumosity? Fear not! A 2022 study by Kumar et al. in Science of Learning from Nature Publishing used Lumosity to uncover some interesting findings about learning and re-learning.
Key Findings:
Some performance loss generally occurs with time off between sessions, but…
It may take as little as two gameplays to get back to prior performance.
In the study, researchers looked specifically at performance on Ebb and Flow and Lost in Migration for members who went as much as 800 days without playing. On their first attempt after 800 days off, game scores for these individuals were almost completely back to where they started. But after just one more game play, most of them performed at “the same level that was achieved in the prior practice session” 800 days ago.
For a lot of reasons, we’re not recommending an 800 day hiatus. But if you’re returning from one, there’s hope that a high score isn’t as far away as you might think.
Whenever you meet someone new, try following these three steps:
1)Picture an image that reminds you of their name. Maybe the name Lydia reminds you of “lit up”
2) Notice the first feature about the person that catches your attention. Perhaps you notice that Lydia wears glasses.
3) Link the image with that feature in as much detail as possible. Imagine Lydia’s glasses lighting up like a neon sign
At first, it may seem like a lot to think about when you’re in the middle of meeting somebody. You can practice this strategy while playing What’s My Name until you get better at it. This will also give you the chance to come up with visuals for lots of common and diverse names.
Note: Everyone’s version of What’s My Name is different. So the face above may not go with the name Lydia in your version.
