Edward Graham Encourages the Hurting in Jamaica
“We Cried Out to the Lord for Deliverance”
As Hurricane Melissa tore through Jamaica and ripped the roof off of her house, Jacqueline was terrified. She cried out to God for deliverance and was thankful for His protection. “It’s just so great to be alive,” she said. She was also grateful to the Lord when Samaritan’s Purse arrived to provide immediate, critical relief—tarps, clean water, medical care, and more.
Samaritan’s Purse COO Edward Graham visited hard-hit Black River and saw firsthand the destruction.
“This part of the island is just devastated,” Graham said. “Every roof has been blown off. The storm decimated this entire area and community.”
Graham met with Jacqueline and other hurting homeowners to reassure them that God loves them and hasn’t forgotten them.
The storm destroyed Black River’s hospital, leaving the area of 150,000 people cut off from medical care. We rushed an Emergency Field Hospital to the area and are now seeing scores of patients each day. Graham visited our facility and praised God for our Disaster Assistance Response Team and their quick work in setting up the hospital.
“It’s an unbelievable capability and even a lot of militaries out there can’t do this. But at the end of the day, it is about loving and serving. It’s about sharing the Gospel.”
