Fall is the perfect time to explore some of the history of Pinal County. The weather is cooler, which makes it easier to get out of the museums and tour some of the county’s historic places, like the Casa Grande Ruins National Monument in Coolidge.
Wondering about the past
Subscribers can take a step into the past with our story about the Casa Grande Ruins. Travel back beyond the time when the first europeans arrived, and learn how the people who lived in the area first tried to tame the wilderness.
The site is operated by the National Park Service, which has numerous programs about the history of the famous Great House and the Ancestral Sonoran Desert People who built it.
There also plenty of programs about the plants and animals you’ll find around the ruins. Don’t forget to bring the kids. The park has a junior ranger program designed just for them.
Guests can pretend they’re cruising down the mighty Mississippi almost 200 years ago. But on a desert lake, they’ll enjoy views that a young Mark Twain never had.
