Looking for a cool getaway that’s close to home? You might want to consider a day hike on Casa Grande Mountain. With some 17 miles of established and marked trails of varying degrees of ease and difficulty, the Casa Grande Mountain trails system has a hike to suit all levels of fitness. You can check out all the details in this subscribers’- onlystory.
And you might want to try and get a better look at the letters on the mountain during your hike. Students from the city’s two high schools recently spent a morning repainting the letters.
Working toward a common purpose
Football players and students from the rival Vista Grande and Casa Grande Union high schools found a common purpose earlier this week when they came together to repaint the letters on CG Mountain as part of a 9/11 memorial project.
According to organizer Scott McEuen, it had been nearly 10 years since the letters were last repainted by a group of Boy Scouts.
“It’s more than just painting a logo,” McEuen said. “Here we have two high schools in town and obviously, they’re rivals, yet on this occasion they’re working shoulder to shoulder on a common project. That’s the main purpose here. It’s to help keep people together in the community and do something good.”
