2023 is a landmark year for the city of Maricopa. This year, the city celebrates it’s 20th year of incorporation! In the last two decades, the city’s seen incredible growth, both economically and in population. Editor’s Note: Even though it’s a young city, Maricopa has many stories to tell. 2023 marks Maricopa’s 20th year of incorporation as the community of barely 1,500 people officially became a city on Oct. 15, 2003. And in the two decades since its incorporation, much has changed.
This issue is all about Maricopa’s history as a city and taking a glance back at how it got there. Though the city may celebrate 20 years of incorporation this October, in compiling these stories, it became clear that this growing city was actually decades in the making.
