WASHINGTON D.C. – Congressman Paul A. Gosar, D.D.S. (AZ-04) issued the following statement after once again inviting Mr. Biden and Mrs. Harris to Yuma County to see first-hand the crisis along the southern border.

“Exactly 30 days ago, I sent a letter to Mr. Biden inviting him to Yuma County in the southern portion of my district in Arizona to view firsthand the health, humanitarian and security crisis his open border policies have created. Despite the sincerity of my invitation, I have not received any formal response from the White House to my original invitation. My invitation one month ago was as urgent as it was sincere.

Mr. Biden recently named Kamala Harris as his “crisis manager” for the border crisis he created. Under her watch, the crisis in Yuma and all along the southern border has only gotten substantially worse. The situation is charitably called a disaster.

Therefore, given the ongoing public health, humanitarian, and security crisis, today I renew my invitation to both Mr. Biden and Mrs. Harris to visit Yuma County to see first-hand what my district and constituents are experiencing from this unprecedented surge of illegal alien border crossings,” concluded Representative Gosar.

“It’s not often I agree with Mr. Biden or his views on foreign policy, but this is an exception. For twenty years, America has been engaged in an endless war in Afghanistan, costing thousands of American lives with a price tag over $1 trillion.

We have defeated our enemy. We must continue President Trump’s mission to put America first and put an end to forever wars. Mr. Biden’s decision will allow for our military to focus on the threats from other enemies, especially Russia, China, and Iran, who will stop at nothing to undermine American sovereignty.

Endless wars come at a great cost to the brave men and women in uniform willing to die for our country.  It’s long past time to bring our troops home,” said Rep. Paul Gosar.

Gosar Files Response to Jayapal’s Frivolous Complaint: “Alleging that I have somehow acted criminally, or against the country I love and protect, is defamatory and reckless. The civil courts will resolve that issue.”

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Paul Gosar, D.D.S. (AZ-04) issued the following statement in response to Representative Pramila Jayapal’s frivolous complaint concerning the events of January 6, 2021:

“Today, I submitted in writing to the House Committee on Ethics my statement in response to the baseless complaint filed by Ms. Jayapal.

On January 6, 2021 I determined to invoke the Electoral Count Act of 1887, and the 12^thAmendment to the United States Constitution, to object to the certification of Electors from Arizona.

This is neither calamitous nor unethical.  Indeed, in 2016, Democrat Members of Congress, led by Rep. Jayapal, invoked the same law to object to the certification of the 2016 Presidential election of Donald Trump.

The illegitimacy of Ms. Jayapal’s claims, when she herself called for an objection of President Trump’s certification in January 2017 is duplicitous and tendentious.

I have at all times conducted myself credibly and well within the acceptable norms of Congress.  The assertion that I planned, created, assisted or otherwise participated in the riot on January 6 is malicious and patently false.

Ms. Jayapal is fundamentally wrong.

Her Complaint is frivolous, ill-conceived and defamatory,” concluded Rep. Gosar.

WASHINGTON D.C. – Today, U.S. Representative Paul Gosar, D.D.S. (AZ-04) issued the following statement after introducing the Higher Education Transparency Act. This legislation mandates complete transparency to expose Confucius Institutes and other foreign influence programs on college campuses disguised as cultural and language programs.

“Institutions of higher education (IHEs) are the stepping stone for the development of the minds of the future leaders of America. It is important that colleges and universities are a place for the robust debate of ideas and absent of foreign influences, including those with ties to communist regimes.

Unfortunately, foreign entities disguising themselves as cultural education institutions raise many concerns about academic freedom and autonomy on our public universities. In particular, Chinese Communist Party (CCP) funded Confucius Institutes operate on dozens of campuses across the United States and serve as a platform to advance China’s political agenda by allowing it to export its state censorship, control academic staff, choose curriculum, and restrict free speech and debate in college classrooms.

I am pleased to introduce this legislation requiring American universities to be transparent about any agreement they have with foreign entities, including Confucius Institutes, which are seeking to leverage influence on American college campuses. Students educated at our colleges and universities deserve transparency when making choices about the institution they plan to attend and classes they wish to take,” said Congressman Gosar.

Background

When the Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations commenced a study on China’s impact on our education system, it found that “foreign government spending on U.S. schools is effectively a black hole, as there is a lack of reporting detailing the various sources of foreign government funding.” In fact, the Department of Education found that over $6 billion in gifts and contracts from China, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates went unreported from various American IHEs in violation of the Higher Education Act.

Taking gifts and entering into contracts with foreign entities is not illegal, but avoiding reporting requirements is, which undermines transparency and academic freedom. These gaps are also routinely exploited by foreign nations which are averse to American values and seek to influence the way America views the world. The Higher Education Transparency Act addresses these gaps by requiring that IHEs post online the full content of any agreement between the IHE and a foreign source that provides language and cultural teaching resources and services to its students.

This reporting requirement allows American students to gain a complete picture of the institutions they wish to study at and will also transparently show how foreign nations are pushing this specific form of influence. Studying history, culture, and heritage is essential for an informed democratic electorate and for our future leadership. Academic freedom should never be undermined by foreign malign influences, and when gaps in current law allow this to occur, the government must work to preserve these basic freedoms.

For years, foreign governments who are global competitors to the U.S., and who do not share American values of freedom, tolerance and open discourse, have essentially bribed major universities with rich programs that often undermine our own government and culture. The extent and duration of these Trojan horse influencers should be made transparent to the public, and the Higher Transparency Education Act does just that.
