•	On this day in 1945: The U.S. Seventh Army liberated thousands of prisoners in the Nazi concentration camp at Dachau, Germany. The camp was the first to be established by the Nazi regime in 1933 and became a model for other concentration camps. The number of prisoners was estimated to be around 200,000. Experts believe that as many as 40,000 detainees died at Dachau.
•	In 1946: The International Military Tribunal for the Far East convened to prosecute former Japanese Prime Minister Hideki Tojo and 28 former high-ranking Japanese leaders for war crimes. Seven defendants were sentenced to death and sixteen others were sentenced to life in prison.
•	In 1992: Riots erupted across Los Angeles in response to the trial acquittals of four police officers indicted on charges of assaulting Rodney King.
