Marine Gunnery Sergeant David Mercado and his wife, Christina, recently participated in Operation Heal Our Patriots. During their week in Alaska, we praise God that they committed their lives to Christ.

The Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Office of the Citizenship and Immigration Services Ombudsman (CIS Ombudsman) invites stakeholders to participate in a webinar highlighting the CIS Ombudsman’s 2021 Annual Report to Congress on Wednesday, July 14, 2021 from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. ET.
On June 30, the CIS Ombudsman’s Office submitted its 2021 Annual Report to Congress. Each year, the CIS Ombudsman’s Office conducts a substantive analysis of some of the most significant problems encountered by individuals and employers in the processing of immigration benefits and includes recommendations for improving U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services’ (USCIS) administrative processes.
During this session, the CIS Ombudsman’s staff will provide an overview of the 2021 Annual Report to Congress. The following topics are included in this year’s Annual Report:
- The COVID-19 Pandemic and its Impact on USCIS Operations;
- Issuance and Coordination of Notices to Appear (NTAs);
- Petitions for Removal of Conditions for Conditional Permanent Residents;
- The Medical Disability Waiver Process;
- An Update on the Continuing Complications of USCIS’ Digital Strategy; and
- International Student Programs
The CIS Ombudsman’s webinar will be an information sharing and gathering session. Participants may submit written questions and comments during the engagement.

The CIS Ombudsman’s Annual Report must provide a summary of the most pervasive and serious problems encountered by individuals and employers applying for immigration benefits with USCIS. Asking the CIS Ombudsman for Help: The CIS Ombudsman provides an impartial and independent perspective to USCIS in an attempt to resolve problems with pending cases. The CIS Ombudsman does not have the authority to make or change USCIS decisions. Recommendations: The CIS Ombudsman identifies systemic problems that individuals and employers face when seeking services from USCIS and makes recommendations with the goal of influencing change and improving the services at USCIS for both those who apply for and those who administer immigration benefits. In addition to the formal reviews and recommendations that the CIS Ombudsman issues to USCIS, we also work in less formal ways to identify emerging issues and begin discussions with USCIS about how problems can be addressed.
