Four men arrive late, carrying a paralyzed man on his bed. When they realize that they cannot possibly get him through the door, they carry their helpless paralytic friend upstairs to the roof and lower the bed in front of Jesus as He is speaking. Their determination to place him before Jesus displays their faith that he would be healed. Instead of being deterred by the problem of the crowds, they see the possibilities for solving it. If they could only involve God, they thought, things would go well. The persevering efforts of the four friends pay off for their paralytic friend as they help make possible his spiritual healing as well as his physical healing. Their actions are an example of the apostle James’ statement in James 2:18: “I will show you my faith by my works.”

Christ finds faith in the friends, and He honors their faith, rather than any faith the sufferer has. Of course, no one can be saved by another’s faith. Yet, another or others can help him along to Christ since only He can deliver him from the bondage of sin. Being pleased with their works, which exhibited their faith, Christ responds to their resourcefulness and perseverance in behalf of their suffering friend. Their faith in Christ, then, is the catalyst in His performing this miracle. Our Savior works where faith is present (Luke 5:20). Obviously, He can perform His work anywhere regardless of human faith, but He often chooses not to act when people lack faith in Him, as happened in Nazareth (Matthew 13:58).

Hope motivates the paralytic’s friends to manifest faith. First, their faith is a wise faith in that it brought the paralytic to the only One who could heal. Second, it is a persistent faith because it is undeterred by seemingly overwhelming obstacles. Third, it is a sacrificial faith in that it gives of its time and effort to bring the paralytic before Christ. Fourth, it is an unintimidated faith because it is unashamedly displayed in public. Fifth, it is a humble faith since the friends do not ask Jesus to come to him but take him to Jesus. Sixth, it is a lovingfaith because the friends willingly expend great effort to get him real help. Finally, it is an active faith in that they take the man to Christ rather than sit around complaining and grumbling about their friend’s woeful condition.

“There’s a difference between being a maverick and being a narcissist.” New York Times columnist Michelle Goldberg tries to get to the bottom of what’s going on with Senator Kyrsten Sinema.

A total lack of accountability. Senator Sinema has been completely unavailable to her constituents: she hasn’t held a townhall since being elected, her offices are closed, and emails, phone calls and meeting requests go unanswered. She’s blocking hugely popular proposals on topics ranging from healthcare to taxes to immigration, while refusing to answer even basic questions about why. No wonder people are confronting her in public places — and no wonder her approval rating is plummeting. 

The money was supposed to be used to fight COVID.The Treasury Department has told Governor Ducey that Arizona must pay back millions in COVID funding that Ducey used to reward schools that didn’t implement mask mandates. Ducey is vowing to fight the issue in court if needed.

As nearly free as possible. The Arizona Students Association has launched a ballot initiative to address the skyrocketing cost of college. 

“This is my life and the life of millions on the line.” Karina Ruiz with the Arizona Dream Act Coalition shared her story with Senator Sinema on a plane to DC on Monday and asked the senator whether she supported a path to citizenship. Sinema pretended she wasn’t even there. 

Keep the pressure on. Tell your representatives and Senators Sinema and Kelly to support the full Build Back Better agenda.

Let’s Go, BRANDON!

The Department of Homeland Securityannounced this week that it intends to cancel the remaining border wall contracts along the southern border. With stacks and stacks of border partitions and miles and miles of fiber optic wiring piled up along the border, the Biden administration is paying contractors $5 million a day to NOT build the border wall. 

Meanwhile, 400,000 illegal aliens are expected to cross the southern border this month. This would be an unprecedented record and double the record set last month. We are on pace to have over TWO MILLION illegal immigrants apprehended while crossing the southern border in 2021. Another 400,000 are “gotaways.” Gotaways is a term used by Border Patrol agents to describe the number of illegals that cross the border and are not apprehended. The number of “gotaways” is likely much higher.

But that’s not all.  Joe Biden is smearing our Border Patrol officials and it is disgusting.  First, the Border Patrol was thrown under the bus recently by Mr. Biden falsely claiming they were whipping illegal Haitians in Del Rio, Texas. Now they are being told they are going to be fired if they don’t get vaccinated by November 1st.  It’s horrific that Border Patrol agents, who have spent their careers protecting the border are being treated worse than the illegal immigrants. Illegal immigrants crossing the border are not required to be vaccinated. They get an airline or bus ticket to go into the interior of our country, many with COVID, while our border agents get pink slips!

The Biden administration has opened our borders to criminals, drug traffickers and the entire third world. Only a president and a party that hates this country would take such illegal and immoral actions. It is estimated that as many as 35% of Border Patrol agents may be terminated because of Mr. Biden’s vaccine mandate. This risks reducing an already depleted Border Patrol workforce.

Joe Biden is an unmitigated embarrassment. He has never, not one single time, been to the border EVER. He is a failed President. I’ve called for his impeachment.

No More Automatic Citizenship

Besides Canada, the United States is the onlyother industrialized country that grants automatic citizenship to all children born in this country.  That means children born to illegal immigrant parents in the United States are guaranteed U.S. Citizenship. This includes tourists passing through America.  A pregnant tourist that gives birth here is giving birth to a “citizen.”  Again, no other country has such a nonsensical law.  Trust me.  You can’t visit France and give birth to a new French citizen.  Our policy on this is silly and harmful. Automatic citizenship has long served as incentive for illegal immigration.  With an estimated two million illegal immigrants pouring across our southern border this year, including pregnant mothers, it is well past time that we end the misguided policy of birthright citizenship.

In response, I have cosponsored H.R. 140, the Birthright Citizenship Act. If passed, this legislation would amend the 1952 Immigration and Nationality Act to prevent children born to illegal-alien parents in the United States from automatically receiving U.S. citizenship.

The Birthright Citizenship Act would restrict the granting of automatic citizenship to newborns who have at least one parent who is a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident. The legislation would also allow the granting of automatic citizenship to newborns who have at least one parent who is an alien serving the armed forces.

Concerned Parents are NOT Domestic Terrorists

This week, the Department of Justice (DOJ) announced it has directed the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to “investigate” threats of violence at school board meetings as possible acts of domestic violence. The real truth is that Joe Biden is now weaponizing the DOJ to go after parents that oppose the Far-Left Socialist Critical Race Theory he is attempting to impose on America’s children. Let me make this clear, according to Joe Biden, parents who advocate against CRT being taught in the classroom are now domestic terrorists. This is outrageous.  These are concerned parents, and they have every right to be. CRT is not history. It’s a Marxist ideology meant to divide us. Parents are awake to this latest threat against their children and many are speaking up at school board meetings across the nation. In America, we do not label those who disagree with the government as domestic terrorists or extremists. That’s what happens in Communist China and Russia. In response, I joined my colleagues in sending a letter to Attorney General Garland demanding the Department of Justice not use the FBI to support this brazen misuse of law enforcement.

Gosar Leads Effort to Develop Veterans Retreat and Community Center

I recently introduced legislation to transfer 232 acres of federal Forest Service land to Gila County for the development of a veterans retreat and community center for the more than 5500 military veterans living in Gila County.  

This currently underutilized Forest Service site is the perfect location for the community center for use as a gathering space for veterans and their families to host retreats, meetings and other events.  The location would also serve as an area for mobile veterans’ clinic for veterans who cannot easily travel to a VA Medical Center. 

Too often our communities that are landlocked by surrounding federal land have few opportunities to create these critically needed services. By working with the Forest Service and transferring these underutilized facilities to the county we are creating a win-win, a win for our veterans and a win for our local community.
