Congress Passes Bill Clawing Back $9 Billion in Wasteful Spending

This week, Congress passed a spending rescissions bill clawing back $9 billion in previously approved wasteful spending including $8 billion from USAID’s foreign assistance budget and over $1 billion from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.  President Trump and House Republicans ran on the promise to combat bloated government spending by eliminating waste, fraud, and abuse. As part of this mission, the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) investigated where taxpayer dollars were being squandered – and what they found was shocking. The days of Democrats’ taxpayer-funded propaganda and far-left global programs are over and House Republicans are putting taxpayers first.  

As I noted in a previous newsletter, the House previously passed the rescissions bill on June 12^th but had to pass the legislation again this week after the Senate made some changes. House Republicans continue to work hand in hand with President Trump to restore fiscal sanity to Washington and reverse years of reckless spending that drives inflation.

Gosar Asks Justice Department to Move Quickly to Prioritize RECA Claims

Now that the Radiation Exposure Compensation Act has been reauthorized and included my legislation expanding it for all of Mohave County,  I sent a letter to the Department of Justice, which reviews all RECA claims and awards compensation, to provide immediate guidance for claimants to apply for their RECA restitution and reopen applications without delay.  The clock is already ticking, and Downwinders in Mohave County have already waited decades.

United States Treasury Posts Surplus in June

I bet you didn’t hear about this from the Fake News: The Treasury Department announced this week that the U.S. government posted a $27 billion surplus in June.  Why, you ask?  Because President Trump’s tariff collections are helping shore up the government’s finances. When was the last time the federal government posted a surplus?  Another good question!  The government last posted a surplus in 2017, during President Trump’s first term.  Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent rightfully noted that the results show that America is “reaping the rewards” from Trump’s tariff agenda adding that June’s Treasury statement is “demonstrating record customs duties – and with no inflation!”   The report goes on to note that the June budget surplus represented a turnaround from the $71 billion deficit in June 2024, when Joe Biden was in office.  The new tariff-related revenue helped boost total budget receipts last month by 13%, or $60 billion, to $526 billion, a record for that month.

June Illegal Border Crossing Post Another Record Low

Here’s another story you probably didn’t hear about this week from the Lame Street Media: U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) released their finalized June data on illegal border crossing and revealed that just 6,072 lawbreakers were apprehended while attempting to illegally cross the southern border last month. According to the CBP, that’s the lowest number ever recorded in U.S. history.  Want more good news?  Of the 6,072 illegals that were apprehended, zero were released into our county for the second consecutive month. For perspective, Joe Biden welcomed, on average, over 200,000 illegals every month during his four, disastrous years in office.  Turns out all we need was a different President…

Reminder: Gosar Announces Congressional App Challenge for Middle and High School Students

Registration is now underway for the 2025 Congressional App Challenge. The competition is open to all middle school and high school students who live in Arizona’s Ninth Congressional District.

The annual competition is designed to encourage student participation in computer science and coding. Students can register for the 2025 competition by clicking HERE and begin coding their apps. The competition deadline is October 30, 2025.

Officially launched by the U.S. House of Representatives in 2015, this nationwide effort allows students to compete with their peers by creating an application or “app,” for mobile, tablet, or computer devices.

The winner from the Ninth Congressional District, chosen by a panel of expert judges, will be featured on CongressionalAppChallenge.us, and the winning app will also be on display at the U.S. Capitol, honoring the winners from across the country.

I receive hundreds of letters each week and I appreciate everyone who writes in.

📬 Here is a letter I received this week from Mary K. from Buckeye, AZ:

📨 The establishment of the “Alligator Alcatraz” migrant detention facility raises significant concerns regarding the potential for human rights abuses, safety hazards, and environmental impacts. Denying lawmakers access to this facility obstructs critical oversight responsibilities and transparency. As elected representatives, it is imperative that you demand unimpeded entry to thoroughly assess the conditions and ensure the humane treatment of detainees. Furthermore, the rhetoric surrounding this facility, including references to feeding people to alligators, is deeply alarming and dehumanizing. Such inflammatory language only fuels an environment conducive to misconduct and abuse. I urge you to take immediate action to gain access, investigate any potential violations, and hold the administration accountable for upholding basic human rights and ethical standards within this controversial detention center. Failing to do so would be a dereliction of duty and a disservice to the principles of justice and human dignity.

✍ Mary, as your letter alludes, recently, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis extended Florida’s state of emergency, thus enabling him to take control of the Dade-Collier Training and Transition Airport under Florida’s emergency powers. The airport, currently owned by Miami-Dade County, was converted into an illegal alien detention center on a 30-square-mile property within the Everglades’ swamplands pending a permanent purchase of the land. Nicknamed “Alligator Alcatraz,” the detention center can hold up to 5,000 illegal aliens pending deportation from the United States. Alligator Alcatraz is not designed to be a long-term detention center; rather it is designed to facilitate President Trump’s agenda of mass deportations by providing for a secure facility where illegal aliens will be held until receiving due process before an immigration judge. 

First, no one has been denied access to Alligator Alcatraz.  These claims are patently false.  In fact, Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier recently conducted a legislative tour for all elected officials.  

Second, this detention center is built to hold individuals guilty of felonious level offenses.  DHS Secretary Noem recently noted that not only was the detention center operating at a higher standard than federal detention centers in the Biden era; but the facility also meets “the highest levels of what the federal government requires for detention facilities.” Which is to say, Florida’s detention center meets the federal standard for immigration-related facilities, complies with federal law and meets or exceeds all legal requirements.

I support efforts to establish more detention centers for illegal aliens pending deportation. With nearly 20 million illegal aliens crossing our southern border under the Biden administration, expanding the number of facilities capable of processing deportation orders is a national priority. That is why President Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill provides historic investments for strengthening our nation’s border security by funding a border wall, and giving Border Patrol and ICE agents the resources, technology, and personnel to detain and deport the millions of illegal aliens who entered under the Biden administration. 

Mary, rather than bending over backwards to fight for illegal aliens, you should be supporting American citizens.
