It’s a simple fact: The city of Philadelphia loves hoagies.
Philly loves hoagies so much that there’s an annual Hoagiefest. And this year, it coincided with a mammoth breakout from slugger Kyle Schwarber, who slashed .272/.385/.680 with 12 homers in June.
After Schwarber got off to a cold start during the postseason, a decision was reached to bring back Hoagiefest, only this time, it was redubbed Schwarberfest. He responded by hitting a 488-foot homer that night, and the Phillies now find themselves back in the Fall Classic for the first time since 2009.
Earlier this season, Mets broadcaster Keith Hernandez made waves when he said he wasn’t working a Phillies series because “I hate doing Phillies games.” Now, he’s rooting for them to win the Fall Classic.
The Phillies already pulled off one of the biggest upsets in postseason history when they beat the 101-win Braves in the NLDS. If they top the Astros, it would be an even bigger surprise.
